Today is election day. Will Latter-day Saints choose a Socialist, a Communist, or a Constitutionalists. This is the choice before us this election. I hope that all Latter-day Saints will honestly study the issues and determine which candidate will most uphold the Constitution and the liberties that it promises, instead of the “lesser of two evils.” We here at Mormons for Baldwin believe that Dr. Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party is the only Presidential contender that will follow our God-inspired Constitution.

Early voting is underway in many parts of the Country. The Democratic candidate for President likes to talk about change. The Republican candidate for President likes to talk about how he’s a Maverick. But what change does Senator Obama support? The same failed socialistic that are destroying our Constitution and bring us into a One World Government. How is Senator McCain a Maverick? He’s trying to make America independent of her founding documents and dependent on the rest of the world in some sort of strange new world order.

Chuck Baldwin said recently “I believe it was Albert Einstein who said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Americans have been electing Republicans and Democrats over and over again, and we have been getting the same results. Let’s try something different this year. What do you say?”

Let’s show Washington that we want real change. We want someone who is a Maverick of party politics. We want Chuck Baldwin of the Independent American Party of Nevada to be the next President of the United States of America. But time is running out. Election day is in 13-days. Let’s each of us tell 13 people a day about Chuck Baldwin and how he wants to return us to a Republic that is founded on our God Inspired Constitution and restore to us the liberties found in the Bill of Rights.

Taxes and Wicked King Noah

I was reading last night with my family in Mosiah chapter 11. The following verses caught my eye:

For behold, he (Noah) did not keep the commandments of God, but he did walk after the desires of his own heart. And he had many wives and concubines. And he did cause his people to commit sin, and do that which was abominable in the sight of the Lord. Yea, and they did commit whoredoms and all manner of wickedness. And he laid a tax of one fifth part of all they possessed, a fifth part of their gold and of their silver, and a fifth part of their ziff, and of their copper, and of their brass and their iron; and a fifth part of their fatlings; and also a fifth part of all their grain. And all this did he take to support himself, and his wives and his concubines; and also his priests, and their wives and their concubines; thus he had changed the affairs of the kingdom. (Mosiah 11:2-4, emphasis added)

Here wicked King Noah was taxing the people 20% of all they had. Later, the Lamanites had the Nephites into capitivity, and charged them a greater tax:

“And all this he did, for the sole purpose of bringing this people into subjection or into bondage. And behold, we at this time do pay tribute to the king of the Lamanites, to the amount of one half of our corn, and our barley, and even all our grain of every kind, and one half of the increase of our flocks and our herds; and even one half of all we have or possess the king of the Lamanites doth exact of us, or our lives. And now, is not this grievous to be borne? And is not this, our affliction, great? Now behold, how great reason we have to mourn.” (Mosiah 7:22-23, emphasis added)

A 20% tax was introduced by wicked King Noah. Then, when the people were taken into bondage, that 20% tax was replaced by a 50% tax. How are taxes like in the United States today? In 2008, the Federal Income Tax rates are between 10% and 35%. But, that’s not the end of taxation. Social Security tax is 6.2% for the employee and 6.2% for the employer (12.4% for self-employed persons), Medicare tax is 1.45% from the employee and 1.45% from the employer (2.9% for self-employed persons). This gives us a Federal tax rate of 17.65% – 42.65% for employees. Self-employed persons that Federal tax rate increases to 25.3% – 50.3%! However, this is not the end of taxes. One of our Chuck Baldwin for President friends posted the following list of taxes:

Federal Income tax: Currently between 10% – 35%, depending on income
Social Security tax: 6.2% from the employee and 6.2% from the employer. (self-employed people like me, pay the entire 12.4%) on the first (as of 2008) $102,000.00 of income earned)
Medicare tax: 1.45% from the employee and 1.45% from the employer. (self-employed people, like me, pay the entire 2.9%)
Sales tax: Clark County, Nevada, sales tax rate is (as of 2008) 7.75%
Federal Gasoline Tax (currently 18.4 cents a gallon)
State Gasoline Tax (Nevada is currently 50.9 cents a gallon)
Federal diesel fuel tax (currently 24.4 cents a gallon)
State diesel fuel tax (Nevada is currently 53 cents a gallon)
Corporate income tax
Estate (death) tax
Gift tax
Telephone Federal Excise Tax
Telephone Federal Universal Service Fee Tax
Telephone Federal, State and Local Surcharge Tax
Telephone Minimum Usage Surcharge Tax
Telephone Recurring and Non-recurring Charges Tax
Telephone State and Local Tax
Telephone Usage Charge Tax
Accounts Receivable Tax

He then came to this conclusion: So, let’s take an average family. Married, two kids. They make $65,000.00 a year. Off the top income tax is $16,250.00. Their half of social security: $4,030.00. Their half of medicare: $942.50. Their tax before any deductions would be $21,222.50! If they are self-employed, add in there another $4,972.50. This would be a combine federal tax of $26,195.00. If they drive a car that gets 35 miles per gallon for 15,000 during the year, then, they’ve paid $78.86 in federal gas tax and $218.15 in Nevada gax tax. This gives a tax bill of $26,492.01 (assuming this family is self-employed/independent contractor)! Ignoring all the other taxes and government imposed fees that this family will have to pay, they are currently paying 40.76% of their income in taxes! After we add in all these other taxes and government imposed fees, I’d be shocked if this tax bill wasn’t 50% or more.

We need leaders who will follow the Constitution. We need Chuck Baldwin for President!

Joseph Smith on 3rd Parties

I was at Church today. I had mentioned to a friend that I was going to be voting for Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party for President. The person I was talking to, a McCain supporter, told me that “A vote for him is a vote for Barack Obama.” I said, “No it isn’t. A vote for Chuck Baldwin is a vote for Chuck Baldwin.” He then proceeded, much like a few of the comments on this blog, to tell me that anyone who votes for someone like Dr. Baldwin will help Senator Obama get elected, and that we can’t risk that. Of course, I disagreed with him. In fact, it made me think of a quote for Joseph Smith. In regards to the question of whether to vote for the “Whig” candidate or the “Democratic” candidate in the election of 1844, and his unwillingness to vote for either, the Prophet Joseph Smith stated:

“….we shall have the satisfaction of knowing that we have acted conscientiously, and have used our best judgement. And if we have to throw away our votes, we had better do so upon a worthy rather than an unworthy individual who might make use of the weapon we put in his hand to destroy us.”

Don’t vote for McCain!

Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain was unfaithful to his first wife. He was dating (and became engaged to) his present wife, Cindy, while he was still married to his first wife. Latter-day Saints are taught of the importance of sexual purity. Don’t support McCain just because he is a Republican. There is a better choice. Latter-day Saints all over the United States are looking at Constitution Party Presidential Candidate Chuck Baldwin. Dr. Baldwin lives up to his marital vows. He will not bring disgrace to the Office of the President as Bill Clinton did. Remember how Republicans chanted “Character Counts” during the Clinton years? It still does.
