Today is election day.  Will Latter-day Saints choose a Socialist, a Communist, or a Constitutionalists.  This is the choice before us this election.  I hope that all Latter-day Saints will honestly study the issues and determine which candidate will most uphold the Constitution and the liberties that it promises, instead of the “lesser of two evils.”  We here at Mormons for Baldwin believe that Dr. Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party is the only Presidential contender that will follow our God-inspired Constitution.

I was reading last night with my family in Mosiah chapter 11.  The following verses caught my eye:

For behold, he (Noah) did not keep the commandments of God, but he did walk after the desires of his own heart. And he had many wives and concubines. And he did cause his people to commit sin, and do that which was abominable in the sight of the Lord. Yea, and they did commit whoredoms and all manner of wickedness.  And he laid a tax of one fifth part of all they possessed, a fifth part of their gold and of their silver, and a fifth part of their ziff, and of their copper, and of their brass and their iron; and a fifth part of their fatlings; and also a fifth part of all their grain.   And all this did he take to support himself, and his wives and his concubines; and also his priests, and their wives and their concubines; thus he had changed the affairs of the kingdom.  (Mosiah 11:2-4, emphasis added)

Here wicked King Noah was taxing the people 20% of all they had.  Later, the Lamanites had the Nephites into capitivity, and charged them a greater tax:

“And all this he did, for the sole purpose of bringing this people into subjection or into bondage. And behold, we at this time do pay tribute to the king of the Lamanites, to the amount of one half of our corn, and our barley, and even all our grain of every kind, and one half of the increase of our flocks and our herds; and even one half of all we have or possess the king of the Lamanites doth exact of us, or our lives.   And now, is not this grievous to be borne? And is not this, our affliction, great? Now behold, how great reason we have to mourn.” (Mosiah 7:22-23, emphasis added)

I was at Church today.  I had mentioned to a friend that I was going to be voting for Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party for President.  The person I was talking to, a McCain supporter, told me that “A vote for him is a vote for Barack Obama.”  I said, “No it isn’t.  A vote for Chuck Baldwin is a vote for Chuck Baldwin.”  He then proceeded, much like a few of the comments on this blog, to tell me that anyone who votes for someone like Dr. Baldwin will help Senator Obama get elected, and that we can’t risk that.  Of course, I disagreed with him.  In fact, it made me think of a quote for Joseph Smith.  In regards to the question of whether to vote for the “Whig” candidate or the “Democratic” candidate in the election of 1844, and his unwillingness to vote for either, the Prophet Joseph Smith stated:

“….we shall have the satisfaction of knowing that we have acted conscientiously, and have used our best judgement. And if we have to throw away our votes, we had better do so upon a worthy rather than an unworthy individual who might make use of the weapon we put in his hand to destroy us.”

The Lord told us that He inspired the Constitution and that “it should be maintained for the rights and protection of all flesh”.  Is our government following this charge from the Lord?  Which Presidential Candidate is planning on following the Constitution?  I believe there is only one candidate who actually intends to follow these inspired words of God.  That candidate is Chuck Baldwin.

One of our Latter-day Saint friends who is supporting Chuck Baldwin wrote an interesting article in May of this year called “the Inspired Constitution“.  It is a good read and a good overview of why our political leaders need  to follow the Constitution.  If they don’t, we don’t want them representing us.  And neither of the two major candidates (or their parties, for that matter) seem to have any regard of what this Inspired Document says.  Constitution lovers can not support those who would trample under their feet the inspired words of Christ.

Chuck Baldwin is the Constitution Party candidate for President of the United States of America.  He is the only candidate right now who believes in actually following the Constitution.  As Latter-day Saints, we believe the Lord when He said “According to the laws and constitution of the people, which I have suffered to be established, and should be maintained for the rights and protection of all flesh, according to just and holy principles; … And for this purpose have I established the Constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose, and redeemed the land by the shedding of blood.”  (Doctrine and Covenants 101:77, 80 – emphasis added)

Since we believe that the Lord inspired men to establish the Constitution, we need to support candidates who actually intent to “protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies”.  That candidate for President is Chuck Baldwin!

If you are a Latter-day Saint and you plan on supporting Chuck Baldwin for President, let us know!  If you have a blog or website, we’d love to link to you and have you link back to us.  You are also welcome to use our icon, as as seen below, or to create your own.  Together, let us get the word out about Chuck Baldwin!
